Dinner at Andrea’s

Sketches from the dinner table. (Incidentally that is a less often used paint box.  I no longer transfer my sketch kit form one bag to another for fear of forgetting it when I switch back, instead I have a few different ones- to add to the back pack, out to dinner handbag, the beach bag, etc.)

Made while my sister and I waited for the Lascaux II ticket office to open. The 17,000 year old paintings and etchings were wonderful to see. So much skill and beauty in those animals moving across the walls. Incredible to see prehistoric evidence of our drive to tell stories and sort things out with art.

My lunch was a beautiful creature

squid sketch

I enjoyed a beautiful outdoor lunch with friends and sunshine.  On my plate was a squid, maybe more than one, with tentacles that curled with repeating shapes and variations in color and temperature-purple, pink, rose, orange that were hard to believe dazzling. The resulting sketch itself doesn’t convey my experience-doesn’t do the gorgeous creature justice,  but the process did/does help me to digest all this beauty and I am grateful for that. (Also bean salad which I have sketched before.)
