While painting this I thought very carefully about the neutrals in the blossoms and how their forms were turning in space. But when I got to my desk to scan it in the painting was missing what my mind’s eye still held of the tulips: PINK. The pink highlighter, immediately at hand in the desk drawer, was just the thing.
4″x6″ watercolor and highlighter pen on watercolor paper.
An oil painting of the same subject is here. Which came first? I started the oil painting last Thursday (the blossoms were in different positions) while working on it this morning, partly from life and partly from a photo, I stopped to do the watercolor.
