learn the shape of yourself

figure on quilts

While working on this figure I listened to writer Mary Karr.  On memoir writing she teaches her students  “…we don’t so much apprehend the world as we beam it from our eyeballs…Learn the shape of yourself. Learn what you do tend to project onto the landscape so that you can account for that tendency and question it.”  I think that is helpful-wonderful- advice.  I am not sure how it would apply to painting but couldn’t resist including it.
